SGM-1 TESTER
Application
The SGM-1 Debossment/Embossment tester is used by printers, financial
institutions, government departments, ink, ribbon and toner manufacturers
to measure excessive amounts of debossment or embossment that may
be present on MICR encoded checks.
Operation
The SGM-1 Debossment/Embossment tester consists of a base and frame,
adjustable focus micrometer stage, document holder, digital controller,
processor, video camera, 9" monochrome monitor, quartz halogen
light source and instruction manual. Options include a Polaroid camera,
SGM-1PC computer interface attachment, external light source and a
12" monitor.
The document to be measured is placed in the document holder and
a light source, generates a reference line equal to the document
surface. An additional reference line equal to the surface of the
printed image is also generated and, through a series of lenses,
projects both images through a digital controller to the camera
and monitor. The difference from the document surface to the ink
or toner image surface is measured by the processor in 0.0001"
increments.
Features
- displays the level of debossment/embossment values
- measures stroke width
- measures overall character dimensions
- measures edge irregularities
- with the optional external light source permits observation
of check paper quality
The SGM-1 meets current American and Canadian MICR Standards
